A Scout is never taken by surprise; he knows exactly what to do when anything unexpected happens.

Notes for Adult Training

If you have questions about adult training, please contact the Training Chairperson for Troop 6 (which is currently Scott Hartog).

Online Training

Several people have expressed some confusion about how to take training on-line and how to print out a training certificate for on-line training.

The on-line training website is http://www.scouting.org/myscouting

The first time you log in, you will be asked to create an account with your email address as your username. When you create an account, you can enter your BSA ID number into your profile, or you can skip that step and do it later. If you don’t know your BSA ID number, then contact the adult training chairperson for Troop 6 to locate your BSA ID. If you already have an account but cannot remember your password, then click the “Forgot Password?” link on the login page. You will be requested to provide your email address, and they will email your password to you. (Remember to check your SPAM and/or Junk Mail folder if you don’t receive the password email.)

To enter your BSA ID number into an existing account, select “My Scouting” from the top menu, then select “Modify Profile”, then select “Modify Membership Information”. There you will see a space in which you can enter your BSA ID number.

To take training or to print a training certificate, select “E-Learning” from the top menu. That will take you a page that shows the available on-line courses. Note that there are four tabs across the top: Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Venturing, and General. The “Fast Start: Boy Scouting” course and the “Troop Committee Challenge” course are under the Boy Scout tab. “Youth Protection”, “Safe Swim Defense”, “Safety Afloat”, “Weather Hazards” courses and other courses are under the General tab.

If you see a green dot next to a course, then you have already taken the course. If so, you will see the options “Retake Course”, “Review Course”, and “View Certificate”. While viewing the certificate, you can also send it to a printer by clicking the printer icon in the web browser (or by typing <ctrl>P for Windows computers).

If you see a yellow dot next to a course, then you have not taken the course. In this case, your only option will be “Take Course”.

If you see a blue dot, that means you started the course at some point in time, but did not complete it. You can reenter the course and resume the training where you left off.

It seems obvious (to me) that the website should display the certificate after you complete the course so that you can print it. It does not. Instead you have to get back to the top menu and select “E-Learning” again. Then you will see a green dot next to the course and you will have the option to view the certificate.

In-person Training

Please see the notebook "Adult Training Schedule" at the troop meetings to get information (including registration forms) on upcoming training courses.
